From the swimming pool to the shooting range, it’s been gold, silver and bronze medals – and even a world record.
And it’s not surprising considering the Hunter is home to some of the nation’s best athletes.
Maddi Elliott, the 15-year-old two-time Maitland Sportsperson of the Year from Gillieston Heights, set the Tallocross International Swimming Centre alight on Friday night when she won gold in the women’s Para Sport 100 metre freestyle S8 final.
Elliott’s reaction was one of sheer joy when she realised her time of one minute and 5.32 seconds made her the world record holder in the 100m and 50m freestyle S8.
Nulkabah pistol shooter Daniel Repacholi won gold in the 10m air pistol in Carnoustie, while Novocastrian Thomas Fraser-Holmes picked up a gold-silver double on the same night in the pool as Elliott and former Maitland Triathlon Club member Aaron Royle claimed a bronze.
Congratulations to all our medal winners on a job well done in Glasgow.
One hopes that they will be able to continue that form against international opponents when the next Olympic Games are held in Rio in 2016.
