Like any good Saturday back home it was football day at the Commonwealth Games so it was time to don the Maitland Blacks shorts and Wallabies jersey en route to Ibrox Park for the rugby sevens.

It was an electric atmosphere at the home of Glasgow Rangers and within a few hours of play hundreds of points, hundreds of pints and a marriage proposal had all transpired before our very eyes.
Australia won both of its morning matches against traditional rivals Sri Lanka and Uganda and, while that was too be expected, it was the reaction of the crowd which was a little unexpected but particularly infectious.
The Scottish, it seems, love an underdog and a fast break by the less-fancied side would send the crowd into a frenzy as they willed the athlete down field and across the try line.
But the biggest cheer of them all came for Scotland when their side scored against rugby powerhouse New Zealand and put themselves within sight of victory in the dying stages.
The Kiwis held on but only just in what was a very entertaining morning of sport, which will be run and won over two days.
While at the rugby sevens unofficial Australian Commonwealth Games mascot Jumpy the Kangaroo proved a hit while at Ibrox Park.
The yellow, inflatable mammal with a Scottish dress sense posed for photographs, entertained children and even made the big screen on several occasions.
Somewhere along the way Jumpy, who was in charge of the royal car when the Queen visited the hockey last week, made time to open his own Twitter account.
If anyone would like to follow his travels across Glasgow for the next week just search for @JumpyOfficial on Twitter.
It was as close to the perfect afternoon possible in Glasgow on Friday with summer sun combined with a trip to the lawn bowls.
But not only was the scene already set, including the beautiful Kelvin Grove Art Gallery in the background, the day just kept on getting better.
A chance encounter with the one and only Australian lawn bowls legend Kelvin Kerkow was only topped by the creation of a new Jackaroos chant which helped the men’s triples get across the line on the final bowl of the final end in an Ashes-like battle with England.
Casting an eye over social media and Maitland’s Simon Orchard has been busy on Instagram during the Commonwealth Games.
His main interest has been the breakfast uniform worn by his Kookaburras teammates with different combinations of their official clothing chosen each day.
To check it out have a look at orchthekid on Instagram or @orchy3 on Twitter while the Kookaburras opened with a comfortable 7-1 win against Wales on Saturday.
To follow on from the Maddi Elliott gold medal winning and world record breaking swim the 15-year-old from Gillieston Heights was also named athlete of the day by Glasgow 2014 organisers.
