Weston has been in excellent form for the last month, beating Edgeworth, Adamstown and Charlestown City to climb to second place on the National Premier League table.

But the friendly has come at a difficult time with coach Steve Piggott admitting to having one eye on Sunday’s crunch clash with South Cardiff.

“The South Cardiff game is the most important thing for Weston this week,” he said.

“I’ll be honest, as a coach I could probably do without the game but the fact is in and around the current timing you can’t help that.

“But from a club point of view it’s great, my focus will be on being competitive and as a group letting the players enjoy themselves up against the next level of players.

“All I’ve asked the players is to put in the best performance they can and play as much positive football as we can.”

Weston has a number of injury concerns throughout the squad and Piggott said he was yet to decide which players would take to the park.

“This trial game is about the Jets and they’ll be looking to get a competitive edge from our guys,” he said.

“We’re there to give them the best hit out we possibly can with the side we have available.

“We’ll have some senior players, some fringe guys and some young guys on show for our club.”

Weston trained for an hour on Monday night with recovery high on the list of priorities 

The Bears are flying in the NPL and a win on Sunday against the Gunners would mean the winner of Weston’s clash with Newcastle Jets Youth on the final day of the season would be crowned premiers.

Weston hosts the Newcastle Jets tonight at Rockwell Automation Park with kick off at 7pm. Entry is free.
