Fire officers from Kurri Kurri Brigade aided by Rural Fire Service firefighters stopped a blaze before it could spread from the Loxford sewerage treatment works late yesterday.

The fire was contained in that area and held before it could cross Northcote Street.
Kurri Kurri Brigade commander Captain Ken Maxwell said a strong wind had enabled the fire to burn out about 1.5 hectares of bushland.
“No property was threatened and the fire was extinguished after being contained,” he said.
