Hunter River Agricultural and Horticultural Association’s Sponsor A Plank Program has raised $3200 since it was launched in June.
Two beams, two joists and seven planks have been sponsored so far.
Association spokeswoman Amanda Winney encouraged people to get involved in the initiative to restore the 100-year-old grandstand.
“We have had a good response so far, though it has been mainly from community groups and local families and not so much from the local businesses,” she said.
“In the next month we hope to do a mailbox campaign to increase the exposure of our appeal to the local community.”
Ms Winney said the association appreciated the community support so far but called for Maitland businesses to support the restoration of the iconic structure.
People can sponsor a plank for $100, a joist for $250, a beam for $1000, a post for $2500 or a foundation for $5000.
All sponsors will have their names permanently listed on the wall of grandstand benefactors.
The program was launched after an anonymous Maitland businessman pledged to donate $200,000 towards the restoration if the remainder of money needed for the work was available.
