The NSW government committed $5 million to upgrade 14 Hunter carriages with refurbished seats, upgraded toilet facilities and anti-graffiti paint.
The first of the carriages went into service last week and the remainder are expected to arrive by the end of the year.
Maitland MP Robyn Parker said people in her electorate relied on trains each day to take them to work, school or social activities.
“Safety and communication equipment has also been overhauled to improve reliability for customers,” she said.
“Locals will also notice a new-look exterior, with all carriages now showing the NSW TrainLink colours and branding. The exterior train paint is anti-graffiti to keep the trains looking clean and modern.
“This refresh is great news for local train customers and shows the NSW government is committed to lifting the standards of public transport in the Hunter.
“I am pleased we have been able to make sure these services are comfortable and clean, as well as more reliable for customers. The people of Maitland and the Upper Hunter deserve no less.”
