Maitland Business Chamber will host its monthly breakfast meeting at Blackbird Artisan Bakery at Maitland Gaol this morning.
The event will feature guest speaker, NSW Business Chamber senior policy manager Luke Aitken.
The NSW chamber launched its Unfinished Business campaign in March, one year out from the state election.
Mr Aitken said the campaign focussed on priorities that the government had not addressed since previous lobbying efforts.
These include funding and delivering more infrastructure through public asset swaps, revitalising the structure of local government and improving senior schooling outcomes, especially for students who do not want to go to university.
The NSW chamber will also advocate for improved energy security and pricing across the state and a more competitive tax system.
One of the most urgent priorities, Mr Aitken said, was getting better infrastructure, particularly for regional communities.
“Businesses need the support of good infrastructure,” he said.
“With Unfinished Business, we will be concentrating on the things that we campaigned for before the last election but haven’t been done.”
Mr Aitken said the organisation previously lobbied for the long-term lease of the Port of Newcastle and the introduction of the Small Business Commissioner.
The chamber has been rallying support since March, with visits to business leaders in Sydney, Port Macquarie and the Illawarra among other locations.
“We had a strong campaign before the last election,” he said.
“We had a lot of big wins.
“It’s about being part of something bigger.”
