Local artist Marie Ho was born in Sydney, relocating to the Hunter region in 1972.
Her talent as an artist did not emerge until her children had grown up and left home.
Marie’s talent had been lying dormant for years, just waiting for the right moment to be released.
“It doesn’t happen over night – you need to take art lessons and practice, practice, practice,” Marie said modestly.
Marie prefers to work with acrylics and her artwork is best described as bold and vibrant.
Favouring dramatic portrayals of floral arrangements, she draws her inspiration from her garden and the ever changing seasons of nature.
“I feel comfortable with florals,” she admitted, and they really are beautiful.
Her work certainly sells well.
Aware that there were many people in the community who, like herself, would love to learn how to paint, Marie now hosts the Maitland Art Society’s social group, which meets on a Monday at the Rutherford Community Centre.
“Monday is the highlight of my week,” says Marie.
“I really enjoy helping others – giving them tips and observing how they are constantly improving”.
