Kathy Pearson, club president, has issued an open invitation to members of the community to take part in the morning tea, lunch and activities at the Bruce Street Community Hall in East Maitland from 9.30am on August 25.
The Monday Club began in August 1974 at Telarah with the goal of providing a social outlet for aged persons experiencing feelings of depression and isolation.
Today it welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds.
Kathy Pearson, club president and volunteer for 15 years, said those who attended the Monday Club felt the benefits that came with socialisation almost instantly.
“We’re social creatures,” she said.
“I remember one gent who had lost his wife and had slipped into depression came along one Monday and was laughing and chatting with the other members as if they were old friends by lunchtime.”
Anyone interested in attending The Monday Club’s 40th birthday or becoming a member should contact Kathy Pearson on 4933 2908 and arrive at the Bruce Street community hall in East Maitland around 9.30am on Monday, August 25.
