Year 12 students at Hunter Valley Grammar will be matched with adults for advice on the careers students are interested in pursuing.
It is the second year the school has run the Business and Industry Dinner.
“Since its inception we’ve created five university scholarships for these graduates,” Principal Paul Teys said.
Local businesses sponsor the $5000 scholarships.
“There wouldn’t be a school in NSW that offers it,” Mr Teys said.
“We’re making links with business professionals for the benefit of kids’ learning.”
Raven Sandow and Andrew Rudge have chosen two very different career paths.
“I want to join the defence force,” said 18-year-old Andrew, who plans to study aeronautical engineering at the Australian Defence Force Academy in Canberra next year.
Raven Sandow, 17, is a talented saxophonist. She has a few options, from editing in the film industry to studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Other careers students have flagged include archaeology, biology, criminal psychology, humanitarian work, political science and investment banking.
Guest speaker and former school captain Lisa Littlewood will speak about her career as a solicitor.
Ms Littlewood graduated in 2000 and went on to study at the University of Newcastle and the University of Wollongong.
She has worked in two of Newcastle’s largest law firms for the past seven years and appeared in the Supreme, District and Local courts.
And still finds time to operate her own boot camp and perform in amateur theatre.
