Thank you for obtaining a reply from mayor Peter Blackmore indicating that the original HROC [Hunter Region Organisation of Councils] has deteriorated into a group of 11 mayors who do not properly represent their ratepayers. He has refused to meet with me despite my qualifications in local government.

I consider that the proposed rail line cut is an insult to the Hunter Region, which has provided so much to the development of Newcastle.
The so-called alternatives just add to the access problems of train commuters. The trips to the Newcastle Eye Clinic will take so much longer with the added confusion of bus connections.
If Hunter Councils cannot see their responsibilities in supporting the objections by the residents of at least 10 council areas from which the mayors are appointed, it is time for the doors to be closed on their operations.
And as one former Newcastle councillor asked me “what do HROC do?”, we can now say that they refuse to even consider the regional problems of the ratepayers.
Any mayor who fails to support his electors is headed for the garbage bin.
