The advice came from the Hon. Mrs MacTiernan, a Labor politician.
She reminded us of the wonderful public transport system they have in Perth, and said the NSW government should use the money available to drag the existing infrastructure into the 21st century.
She went on to say it was typical of the thinking of the late 1970s, early ‘80s, where there was no investment in keeping services competitive.
What Mrs MacTiernan has not allowed for is the fact that Newcastle and the Hunter Region has for so long been dominated by Labor politicians, bureaucrats and councillors who have done very little for the area, all adhering so tightly to the grandfather syndrome – “It was good enough for my grandfather, it’s good enough for me.”
