The director of the first Dungog Festival, which will bring four days of entertainment, food and fun to Dungog Shire, was delighted after the festival kicked off yesterday.
Mr Lindsay said Dungog’s ability to host large-scale events, such as the Dungog Film Festival and Mumford and Sons Gentlemen of the Road tour in 2012, as well as its picturesque location were among the reasons for choosing the area.
“Dungog has a history of putting on great festivals at that location, great large events,” he said.
“Also it’s up there in the Upper Hunter which is a gorgeous little pocket of the Hunter Valley with its rolling hills and sweeping farmland.
“And it’s an equally easy trip up from Newcastle or Sydney, which is perfect for a weekend away.”
The Dungog Festival will feature a film and music program as well as food, wine, craft and activities.
The film program, which begins on Friday night with the Australian premiere of The Infinite Man, includes 17 new local and international films screening at the James Theatre and the Dungog Memorial RSL.
Another festival highlight will come in the shape of Australian music royalty when legendary You Am I frontman Tim Rogers plays solo at the Settlers Arms Hotel.
Organisers expect more than 3000 people to make their way to Dungog over the weekend and Mr Lindsay said the support from the local community had already made a great impact on the event.
“All weekend there’s lots of community events like the mountain bike tours of the Barrington Tops and the Gresford Rodeo.”
