Eighteen students from the choir performed at the Department of Education and Communities executive conference at the East Maitland Bowling Club on Friday.
The students, in years 2 to 12 at various Hunter Region schools, performed three songs including the national anthem and the Louis Armstrong classic It’s a Wonderful World.
Dungog Public School itinerant teacher and choir director Donna Griffith said the third song, a rhythmic number called I Believe, showed the students’ ability to rock out.
“The kids love the pop songs and love to move around,” she said.
“It demonstrates to the public they’ve got rhythm and can rock a bit when they want to.
“It also showcases across the board their musical ability.”
The choirists have various degrees of hearing impairment and Mrs Griffith said it was a welcome opportunity for them to perform as part of Hearing Awareness Week.
“Everyone was really pleased, we got lots of great feedback about how good it is to see these kids perform.
“The kids love coming together to socialise and share their skills.”
