The 2014 season begins tonight with Scott part of the Raymond Terrace side taking on Wallsend at Wallsend in the opening round.
Scott, recently returned from Glasgow, and husband Lennon will be alongside Jamie Minter in the triples, with Michael Abel and Matthew Baus playing pairs and Ian Lean singles.
Most of these players have been part of the Invitational Big Bowls Challenge for other clubs, but will join forces as Raymond Terrace this year.
“It [Invitational Big Bowls Challenge] has been running for 10 years and a lot of our guys have been marquee players at other clubs,” Raymond Terrace skipper and Australian squad member Matthew Baus said.
“There was also a clause about a cooling-off period after playing premier league, but now that has been removed and we are in the mix.”
Baus said Raymond Terrace was looking forward to playing and would hopefully give the title a shake in their maiden year.
Also in action tonight will be Charlestown, newcomers Kahibah, Alder Park and Lambton, while East Maitland will host last year’s semi-finalists Beresfield.
Tomorrow night 2013 runners-up East Cessnock are at home to Valentine, Ettalong visit last year’s minor premiers Maitland City, Soldiers Point tackle Nelson Bay while defending champions Kurri, who turned around three consecutive grand final losses with success in December’s decider, will be up against Toronto in the season opener.
All matches are scheduled to start at 6pm.
In other lawn bowls news, St John’s Park won the state No.1 Grade pennant title last week, which included local champions Raymond Terrace, while Kotara won Grade No.2, Mount Lewis Grade No.3 and Narrabri Grade No.4.
