The Bureau of Meteorology say a low pressure system will develop over the western Tasman Sea today then deepen tonight and Wednesday morning with strong to possibly gale-force south-westerly winds for coastal areas.
Damaging winds averaging 65 km/h with peak gusts of 100 km/h are possible along the coast fringe of the Metropolitan, Hunter, Illawarra and southern parts of the Mid North Coast forecast districts Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
Very heavy surf which may lead to localised damage and coastal erosion is forecast for the Hunter forecast district and southern parts of the Mid North Coast forecast district for Wednesday. Beach conditions in these areas and for most of the remainder of the coast will be dangerous and people should stay well away from the surf and surf exposed areas.
