A puppet flying paper mache Peter Pan will take centre stage in the All Saints College, St Peter’s Campus, Maitland production of the children’s classic this week.
Years s7 to 10 are in the final rehearsal stages of Doug Rand’s Peter Pan.
“We originally wanted to do it in the school grounds and use the buildings to tell a story but unfortunately, due to the weather, we couldn’t do that,” drama teacher Rebecca Cornwall said.
“The kids have adapted to it really well.”
A cast of 40 and a crew of 10 will premiere the show at St John’s Hall, adjacent to the school, on Friday night.
“I’ve loved [performing] it, I love getting up on stage and acting,” said year 10 student James Riddien, who plays Mr Darling.
“It’s a lot of fun, they put a lot of humour in it and have changed it from a serious story. They’ve made it appealing to a wide audience.”
James’ on-stage wife, Emily Shakespeare, has been in every school production for the past four years and said this one was a bit different.
“It’s been a great experience,” Emily, who plays Mrs Darling, said.
The show will premier on Friday night, September 12, with a matinee show earlier in the day and a second show on Saturday, Saturday 13.
