All 462 students are involved in the show – renamed Wizard of Aus – which is the most ambitious production the school has staged.
To add to the local flavour, the play is set in Singleton, Cobar and Merriwa and it is Cyclone Tracy that blows away Dorothy’s house.
Auditions were held for lead roles and involved reading scripts, singing and performing.
“We have made some adjustments to the original, but the audience will still recognise the story,” teacher Emma Cagney said.
“The show was my idea because I had done the same version, while teaching at Metford school.”
Aspire artistic director Anna Kerrigan and choreographer Lauren Wheatley were called in to lend their talents.
The school rock band will perform and students will sing to entertain the audience during intermission.
The Wizard of Aus is a two-hour play and opens tomorrow at 6.30pm and on Wednesday at 11.30am and 6.30pm. Tickets are on sale at the school; phone 4932 8605.
