That’s what a top notch team of snail catchers believes.
So the slick operators at Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions Cessnock will be targeting homes in the Maitland area as its next hunting ground.
So successful has the group become that they are offering a free snail removal service.
“We’ll go anywhere to collect snails and Maitland looks a very promising area,” Ashleigh McDonald, business development representative at Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions Cessnock, said.
“Our snail hunters would love to come to Maitland and we are looking for more work now – it’s the start of the snail-hunting season really,” Ms McDonald said.
“From now until around Christmas is the perfect time to look for snails and our people are very enthusiastic.
“They work for about four hours a day and they have become very skilled at what they do.
“In one recent operation at a Hunter vineyard, they brought up over 1000 snails.”
Ms McDonald said the snail hunters were proud of their jobs which brought them a great deal of self esteem.
“Doing what they do gives them a real purpose in life and we would love people in Maitland to contact us if they want snails removed,” she said.
“We are happy to go to people’s homes too if they have snails.”
Ms McDonald can be contacted on 4991 6333.
The snail removal service operates on behalf of Hunter Valley Snails at Nulkabar, which markets the creatures throughout Australia.
Matt Friere of Hunter Valley Snails said: “We grow these snails to sell for food and they are exported all round Australia.”
