KU Maitland Mobile Preschool has been providing childcare in Thornton and Morpeth for nearly 10 years.
The future of the Wednesday service, held in the Morpeth School of Arts Hall, has been threatened by the changes to funding for NSW preschools, and low enrolment numbers.
The school need 15 enrolments by October 10 to keep operating.
“It’d just be such a shame if they don’t get the enrolments,” mum Alice Ropata said. “The 10th of October is looming.”
She said she struggled to find availabilities at nearby preschools, which had closed their books for next year.
“It’s such a valuable little preschool and people don’t know it’s here,” Ms Ropata said.
KU Children’s Services CEO Christine Legg said more enrolments would keep the service operating.
“We fear that some local families may not realise the preschool is there, or what a wonderful experience and transition to school program it provides,” Ms Legg said.
“It would be very sad to have to close the Morpeth location at the end of the year, so we are hoping that by getting the word out, we can enrol enough preschoolers, particularly four-year-olds, to see the service continue.”
Families who wish to enrol in the KU Mobile Preschool, in Morpeth (Wednesday) or Thornton (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) can contact Cherylanne Williams at cherylanne.williams@ku.com.au by October 10 October 10.
