The 17-year-old is one of nine state finalists in the running to win a $20,000 scholarship from the Australian Hotels Association NSW Charitable Foundation.
Jazmin, who has completed her Certificate II in Tourism, has ambitions to be a tourism and events manager.
“I like that you can interact with different nationalities and different people,” she said.
“You’re not doing the same thing every day.”
She said the scholarship would give her financial peace of mind.
“I got the call [about being a finalist] on the way to work and I could hardly speak,” Jazmin said.
The winner of the 2014 AHA NSW Women in Tourism and Hospitality Scholarship will undertake a Bachelor of Business (International Hotel and Resorts Management) at the prestigious Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School with the $20,000 scholarship used to cover residential costs.
AHA NSW CEO John Whelan said the aim of the scholarship was to help regional women realise their full potential.
“The hotel industry is made up of many
talented women who play a key role in our
venues right across the state,” he said.
“The annual scholarship is another way AHA NSW is able to give something back to local communities by helping a talented young woman from regional NSW to live her dream of a career in hospitality.
“Girls like Jazmin epitomise what this scholarship is all about and I wish her the best of luck.”
Jazmin, a student at the Hunter School of the Performing Arts in Broadmeadow, completed work experience at the Crowne Plaza Newcastle as part of her TAFE course.
She will appear before the judging panel in Sydney tomorrow.
