The free workshop invites children to build and decorate paper and foam lanterns that will be launched downriver at the culmination of the Maitland Multicultural Riverlights Festival on October 11.
Maitland City Library’s Kelly Shankley-Price conducted the workshop as part of the school holiday fun program.
“The program was organised by Rebecca Cowrie and it has been received really well over the years,” she said.
“It started out just as one of our holiday programs but it has dove-tailed nicely with the festival and the kids always love launching their lanterns on the night.”
The second and final round of the lantern workshop will be held on Monday at Maitland Library from 10am to 11am and from 2pm to 3pm at Rutherford Library.
The workshop is free and suitable for children aged four to 14 years.
The festival will take place at Riverside Car Park (formerly Galtons Car Park) in St Andrews Street, Maitland, from 3pm until 10pm.
