They may not be the poster dogs for canine cuteness but with their barrel-chested bravado, fiercely protruding bottom teeth and pushed in faces, there is no denying the appeal of the beloved bulldog.

Members of the Maitland bulldog fraternity gathered at Morpeth Common yesterday to compare wrinkles and raise money for Hunter Animal Rescue.
“This started as a group of bulldog lovers just wanting to get together and then we thought it would be nice to do it as a fund-raiser as well,” Bulldog Fun Day host and Hunter Animal Rescue volunteer Jenny Parker said.
But while any breed featuring the word bull tends to score a bad rap, Jenny Parker said this simply comes down to misinformation.
“Bulldogs have so much charisma and I just love their squishy faces,” Ms Parker said.
Ms Parker is owns an Australian bulldog named Malibu, a dog she sums up in one word.
“Entitled ... that’s what she is,” Ms Parker said. “But she is awesome, she’s so laid back and easy going.”
