With fledgling director Jess Rose at the helm, youth drama group Upstage Theatre will next month present Dags.
From Debra Oswald – co-creator and head writer of the hit Australian series Offspring – Dags tells the story of an angst-ridden teenager and her quest to find her place in the world.
“Dags is about a girl called Gillian experiencing first love so, basically, this play is about what it’s like to be a teenager growing up,” Rose, 26, said.
“But Gillian is also very awkward and she’s not popular, but the guy she likes is, so I guess it’s all about that angst that you go through.
“I think everyone can relate to this play.”
Upstage will also donate part of the play’s proceeds to headspace Maitland.
“Gillian doesn’t think she’s good enough, which I think is quite relevant for kids today,” Rose said.
“A lot of kids go through this weird time in their lives.”
Dags opens at Firebug Studios, High Street, Maitland, on October 22 and runs until October 25.
