Ms Parker was responding to a question from the Mercury about congestion on Newcastle Road and the New England Highway, listed in the top five most complained about roads in the Hunter Valley in an NRMA survey.
“In relation to congestion, we made an election commitment of $45 million to upgrade the two roundabouts [the hospital and railway station on the highway] to ease congestion,” she said.
“Work is under way to complete the final stage, which is the east-west overpass.
“The NSW government completed a $3.5 million upgrade of the New England Highway at Rutherford between Regiment and Racecourse roads earlier this month – two months ahead of schedule – to improve safety and traffic flow.”
