Matthew Higgins, Brody Musgrove and Wesley Hodgson are among 8649 Hunter year 12 students who will sit for the first English exam. Boys make up 49 per cent of enrolments this year (4248) while girls number 4401 – 51 per cent.
The All Saints College, St Mary’s Campus students are prepared for a tough exam.
“English is going to be the hardest,” Brody, 18, said.
Wesley, 18, added: “I wouldn’t say heaps [hard] but I have been studying.
“I think my stress will occur the moment before I go in for the exam. I wouldn’t say I’m as stressed as other people.”
English is the only compulsory HSC subject.
“I’ll be really happy if I get 75, I really want to get a decent ATAR,” Brody, who has already secured an apprenticeship at Tomago Aluminium, said.
Wesley hopes to score somewhere in the 80 per cent range.
“I wanted to do law but I’m thinking business and commerce now,” Wesley said.
And for Matthew: “I want to do surveying which you can do at Tafe.”
