Council has spent the past few months installing the new ramp, which improves safety for drivers, cattle and handlers.
The new ramp has been built by ProWay with some small modifications to meet the needs of saleyards users.
Council’s saleyards officer Bruce Sun said the new ramp was funded through a $127,000 heavy vehicle safety and productivity grant, with an additional $28,000 kicked in from saleyards funds.
In addition to the ramp there have been improvements to access for trucks delivering cattle to the yards.
“We’ve done some work, which means the trucks are kept off the road,” Mr Sun said.
The new ramp also limits the safety risk for both handlers and cattle sold at the yards.
It contains a hinged, semi-circular gate that can be manually manoeuvred without handlers having to enter a holding pen and gates that allow drivers to move cattle without risking injury.
“It’s also a smoother run, which limits the potential for bruising to the cattle,” Mr Sun said.
Mr Sun said council was still working to upgrade two of the existing loading ramps at the saleyards while another would be removed.
