Cook, a year 9 student at All Saints College, St Joseph’s Campus, Lochinvar, won the junior boys’ freestyle unlimited B-class and East Maitland’s Paddison won the adult men’s freestyle limited recurve C-class.
The two archers were part of the Hunter Academy of Sport archery squad team under head-coach Lynne Fairhall.
The titles held in Yankton, South Dakota, ran for five days and was a high-class test of skill and endurance.
Other successful Hunter archers included: Narelle Cook, first place, adult women’s freestyle unlimited B-class; Aimee Duncan, first place, adult women’s freestyle limited compound C-class; and Peter Fairhall, third place, adult men’s freestyle unlimited B-class
Today is a very important day for the NSW Regional Academies of Sport. Representatives of each regional academy have been invited to attend a NSW government reception at Parliament House in Sydney.
The Hunter Academy of Sport has chosen four members of its triathlon squad to attend as its athlete representatives – Sarah Gardner, Courtney Wevers, Hamish Longmuir and Lorcan Redmond. They will be accompanied by their program co-ordinator Glen Longmuir.
The occasion provides a wonderful opportunity for the young athletes involved not only to visit Parliament House, but to meet and talk to the various members of the NSW Parliament.
The Hunter Academy of Sport track and field talent development squad continued its program with a training day at the Forum at the University of Newcastle on Sunday and has further training days during the next two months.
Many of the members of this outstanding squad have competed successfully at recent major school championships and will be hoping to carry their good early season form forward to the various upcoming national events.
The athletes in this Hunter Academy squad are: Charisse Carney, Erin Cleaver, Bernice de Jager, Griffin Del Caro, Nicholas Gilbert, Emma-Sue Greentree, Aiden Harvey, Liam Kelly, Sabrina Kilousis, Flynn Lefmann, Daniel Livingstone, Cory McGinniskin, Ryan McGinniskin, Lia Mills, Lucas Millward, Rachel Naylor, Molly O’Neill, Damien Owen, Lorcan Redmond, Portia Rennie, Nicola Searles, Maya Stewart, Emma Stokes, Laura Stokes, Cooper Talbot, Isobel Warby, Grace Weir, Emily Whelan, and Ethan Wilkinson.
Coaching staff are Jay Armstrong, Alison Baillache, Ed Batten, Caryn Brett, Emily Coppins, Max Debnam, Caitlin Delaney, Rhys Donkin, Natalie Ferris, Shaun Fletcher, Gerry Grimes, Trevor Height, David Holt, Matt Horsnell, Danielle Lawton, Joshua Milford, Jo McGinniskin, Lorraine O’Connor, Yvonne Puller, Dave Puller, Kerry Smith, Colin Smith, Liam Speers, Rigby Vane-Wood, Melissa Ward, David Waller, and Mikaela White.
While talking track and field, it should be noted that the 2015 Hunter Academy of Sport squad will be selected early in 2015, with a selection day to be scheduled during February and the squad program to start early in March.

The Hunter Academy of Sport Junior Lawn Bowls Talent Development Squad has been involved in regular monthly sessions this year again hosted by the Beresfield Bowling Club.
Thanks to the co-operation and assistance provided by the club and by the squad staff Daryl Denman and Rod Rutherford, this squad program has again run very successfully during the last 12 months.
The young lawn bowlers in the squad are: Mitchell Bellingham, Andrew Hanlon, Kate Matthews, Jayden Newman, Mitchell Parsons, Sean Parsons and Beau Wieden.
