Smee will chase national titles in Adelaide in December following twin victories in the under-17 girls’ division at the NSW All Schools Athletics Championships.
The Thornton 16-year-old recorded personal best times in taking out the 100 and 200 metre finals last weekend.
Smee was the fastest qualifier for the 200m decider after stopping the clock at 25.19 seconds in the heats before blowing away her opponents by more than half a second with a run of 24.62s in the final.
Smee then backed it up in the main event with a convincing triumph and a new individual mark of 12.14s for the 100m.
“I’ve just had the best athletics week of my life,” Smee posted on Facebook.
“NSW All Schools 100m and 200m champion and three PBs [personal bests] from three runs.
“Off to nationals at Adelaide for both of my events now.”
Also making the top of the podium at the annual state carnival was Kurri Kurri High School’s Matthew Rees and Lily Cains of St Peter’s, Maitland.
Australian Youth Olympics representative Rees won the 17-years boys’ javelin with a throw of 66.85ms, almost 11m clear of his nearest opponent.
All Saints College student Cains took out the 14-years girls’ long jump with a leap of 5.46m, which was 19cm clear of her nearest rival.
There were five other local athletes who finished as place-getters – Emmelene Keevill, Rigby Vane-Wood, Lleyton Lloyd and the Newman twins, Jack and Tom.
Keevill, of St Mary’s at Maitland, scored silver in the 17-year girls’ javelin with a throw of 34.34m.
Vane-Wood and Lloyd collected three bronze medals for Dungog High School with Vane-Wood third in the 19-years boys’ javelin and Lloyd third in both the Paralympic under-16 boy’s long jump and 800m.
And finally, Jack Newman finished runner-up and one ahead of Thomas Newman in the 16-year boys 400m, but the Maitland Grossmann duo reversed the order in the 200m with Thomas picking up another bronze and Jack fourth.
The full results are available on the Athletics NSW website.
The Australian All Schools Athletics Championships will be held in the South Australian capital from December 5 to 7.
