“I enjoy maths and the first few questions were fairly easy,” said Amy.
“They were the questions I had been studying. The last questions were harder, but they were a good challenge.”
Both girls worked out what they had to do in the paper before they started the exam.
“I tried to think through what I was going to do before writing anything down,” Amy said.
Melanie said the paper was almost like a second trial exam.
“The trials we had were good preparation for the actual exam,” she said.
“They gave us a good idea of where we needed to improve.”
Both girls said they had also learned to bypass hard questions, tackle the others first and then return to the first one.
With the end of school days approaching, Amy plans to spend a gap year working with local people in a village in Fiji.
She then intends to study biology or mathematics at university.
Melanie wants to become a geneticist, working with DNA to improve the quality of crops.
