Gallery shop volunteers won the teams division last week and Marilyn Frost was named a finalist in the seniors category, for people older than 65.
Ms Frost said she worked two four-hour shifts at the gallery each week as a security and information attendant.
She began volunteering in Victoria about seven years ago but started her duties at MRAG when she moved to Maitland with her husband about 18 months ago.
Ms Frost said she was surprised when she heard she had been nominated for the award.
“It’s just such a lovely place to volunteer,” she said.
“I’m learning things, art-wise, as I go along because I have to find out as much as I can, do some research on each artist so I can talk to the public.
“It’s very, very interesting.”
The MRAG shop team won the Regional Volunteer Team of the Year Award.
The team includes Margaret Guy, Belinda Hailstone, Robyn Redford, Pam Cole and Kate Allen.
