A Little Saturday Night Music is the latest release from the eclectic rock stalwart and the first with new band The Temple Dogs.
The live release was also partially recorded at the Wickham Park Hotel.
“Our fans have asked for a live album for a while now and we’ve put a lot of the tracks they have requested on this album as well as a couple of new songs that have been added to the show recently,” Vincent explains.
“The album title is a tip of the hat to Mozart’s A Little Night Music and probably comes from my early start as a classical musician and my memories of our shows in Germany over the years.
“Don’t be fooled by that though, this is indie world music and rock-pop.”
Floyd Vincent and the Temple Dogs, which also features bassist Bill Jacobi and drummer Dave Marsalis, rates Maitland’s Grand Junction, or Junkyard as it’s affectionately known, as one of the country’s best.
“The Junkyard is one of those remarkable places where music is the focus of the evening,” Vincent says.
“Whether that has occurred by chance or been cultivated by the owners, Ben and Melissa, or both, I’m not sure.
“But as a performer it is a delight to come to a venue with an attitude like that.
“You even get announced before you start.
“It happens quite a bit in Europe but not so much here in venues that are free to enter.”
The songwriter also chose to record at the Junkyard because of its quality acoustics.
“In mixing this album I thought to myself ‘what would we sound like on a good night if you sat at the mixing desk?’” Vincent says.
“I also programmed the setlist on the album the same way as I would have done for one of the gigs.
“I kept the live ethos in mind all the way.
“We had recorded a few shows and I went for the best performances. There is no auto-tune on this album.
“The interaction between musicians that’s been captured can only come from people who know each other’s playing well and have worked together for a long time.
“There is a lot of improvisation going on.”
The album will be available at their shows and will also be available from their website www.floydvincent.com.
It will be distributed nationally by MGM Distribution.
Floyd Vincent and the Temple Dogs play the Grand Junction Hotel on Sunday at 5pm.
