Closebourne Village residents will use Morpeth House as a community centre after retirement village operator Lend Lease restored the heritage building.
Maitland MP Robyn Parker will open the new community centre today.
“I’m very impressed by the faithful level of detail given by Lend Lease to the restoration of this heritage site,” Ms Parker said.
“Residents are now able to enjoy a wonderful building that will play an important role in the ongoing life of this community.”
A statement from Lend Lease said that the company tried to restore as much of the original 150-year-old building as possible.
But where replacement of building parts was the only option, materials and methods from 150 years ago were used to maintain the heritage look and feel of the house.
The revamped premises includes a tea lounge, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, enclosed verandahs, a billiards room, cards room and crafts room.
A restored chapel on the site has also been turned into a multi-purpose hall.
An indoor pool and gym pavilion has been built at the site in the heritage style of Morpeth House.
