The 17-year-old was the only student at Maitland Christian School who took on Thursday morning’s HSC ­business studies exam.

For two years Jaycob visited his teacher in Sydney at the start of each term for guidance, then studied the course via ­distance education.

Then once a week he would consult with a teacher at his school to check his progress. 

And while that might seem a lonely experience for a year 12 student, Jaycob said it had not affected him.

“After two years of being the only one in the class you get used to it,” he said. “I don’t mind working independently.”

Jaycob said the test, which was the last of his HSC exams, had been as expected.

“I think it went pretty well,” he said. “I managed my time well, I’d say it was a good test, I was able to answer all the ­questions. There were a few questions that were very ­specific which caught me a ­little off guard, but overall it was good.”

The Ashtonfield resident said the knowledge base he had built over the past two years would also come in handy in the future because he wanted to study business at university next year.
