Anyone would think that Robyn Parker, a Liberal, and I, a Green, would be complete opposites.

Yes, in politics, in many ways we are, but life goes beyond politics – although some would disagree.
But I found Robyn Parker to be an honest, hard-working, decent person both as an individual and as our local MP. Mrs Parker and her family are valued members of our community.
I know that we disagreed on many policies and we argued on a few occasions about which way our region should be heading. But there was no bitterness, no hatred. We agreed to disagree.
So, that’s why, in one way I am sorry to see her leave politics – but I am not sorry in another way.
Politics in this country has, in recent years, taken a turn towards ugly and nasty.
We can all do without that in our working lives.
I wish Mrs Parker well in her political retirement but I know that she will remain active in other interests she has in life, like social justice.
Perhaps next time we meet it might be in a situation where we can work together.
- John Brown, Greens candidate for Maitland
