When her auntie was diagnosed with breast cancer, Anne, 33, had a pink ribbon tattooed on her arm to remind her of the familial battle.
“Two years ago my auntie was diagnosed with breast cancer and watching her go through that was
really heartbreaking, so I decided to get a tattoo to honour that battle,” Anne, owner of Evocative Ink in Maitland, said.
Earlier this month the team at Evocative Ink staged an event to raise money for breast cancer research. During the day they created almost 30 tattoos.
“Despite the theme the day was really positive,” tattooist Ash Tasker said.
“We see more and more people coming in for memorial tattoos but this was something different, it was more about hope and survival.
“I have tattooed a few people who have had cancer and one lady likes to get a tattoo every year of her survival, which I think is really beautiful.”
