Hunter MP Joel Fitzgibbon took aim at Paterson MP Bob Baldwin on Twitter yesterday afternoon over comments about road funding that Mr Baldwin made in Parliament earlier that day.
“Bob Baldwin tells Parliament the Hunter needs no more money for roads,” Mr Fitzgibbon posted.
Mr Baldwin replied: “More lies from [Mr Fitzgibbon]. Fitz, I said that the Pacific Hwy [sic] was complete in Paterson.
“[Mr Fitzgibbon] seems to have forgotten that ALP blocked road funds going to local councils.”
The Hunter MP replied that he looked forward to Mr Baldwin’s comments becoming available in Hansard, Parliament’s official verbatim record of proceedings.
Mr Baldwin then accused Mr Fitzgibbon of opposing F3 road funding after the 2007 election, which the Hunter MP said was not true.
Mr Baldwin referred Mr Fitzgibbon to a Mercury article from November, 2007, which reported that the newly re-elected Hunter MP was questioning whether the F3 to Branxton highway connection was a good option for the region.
“Yes we spent money reviewing the project given u [sic] did nil for 12 yrs [sic],” Mr Fitzgibbon posted in response.
But Mr Baldwin returned fire: “Lies again Joel, Howard Govt [sic] spent $$$$ [sic] on planning and land acquisition.”
