A member of the Maitland Region Society of Artists, Debbie prefers to paint with oils in a traditional and realistic style.
Her chosen subjects are landscapes, seascapes, birds and animals. She is probably best known for her paintings of dogs.
This began several years ago when a friend asked Debbie to paint a portrait of her deceased, much loved dog. This led to many commissions for paintings of much loved pets.
“It is so rewarding to see the reaction of their owners,” Debbie remarks. “I always pay special attention to the animal’s eyes, endeavouring to
capture the individual personality and soul.”
Debbie recently exhibited her oil painting of a horse entitled Flying Free. Just the head was shown with its mane flaring out. It certainly caught the attention of many art lovers.
Although Debbie’s style hasn’t altered much in the last two years, she has loosened up her style by painting waves on large canvases.
“It’s a good way to play around with brush strokes and strong colours,” she explained. The wave paintings have proved popular and Debbie has no trouble selling them.
Which proves the old maxim ... “a change is as good as a rest”.
