Now the young Bolwarra thespian has been hailed as one of the state’s most promising young actors.
Alex is one of 19 public high school students – and the only Maitland representative – chosen for the first NSW State Drama Ensemble.
An initiative of the Department of Education and Communities Arts Unit, the ensemble aims at enhancing the skills and experience of promising drama students.
“I’ve been doing drama since I was seven and I just love it,” Alex, 17, said.
The Maitland Grossmann High School student has been honing his theatrical skills at Maitland Repertory Theatre for the past 10 years.
“I just love the place. It’s a real home away from home for me,” he said.
Alex is on a mission to act as much as possible for as long as possible.
“Going to NIDA [the National Institute of Dramatic Arts] is definitely something I want to do and the stage is where I want to be,” he said. “Being on stage makes me feel very excited and nervous and I get all these crazy feelings – I just love it.”
