A Westpac Rescue Helicopter spokesperson said Wednesday morning that the pool’s lifeguards administered CPR on the woman until paramedics arrived.
She was air-lifted to John Hunter Hospital.
UPDATE: Maitland City Council has clarified details about an incident that took place at Maitland Pool yesterday.
The Mercury contacted council for details Tuesday after the 66-year-old woman had been pulled from the pool, but the spokesperson was unable to provide more information.
Council released the following statement on Wednesday afternoon:
“There was an incident yesterday at Maitland Pool around 12.50pm where a woman was found floating on her back partially submerged at the 20m mark at the shallow end of the pool.
“Lifeguards performed CPR until the paramedics arrived, and the Westpac Helicopter service transported the woman to hospital.
“The paramedics praised council lifeguarding staff for their quick response and management of the situation.”
