The realignment of services occurring at Maitland TAFE in Metford will see a reduction of one teaching staff member, an education department spokesman said yesterday.

He was responding to claims that only 30 tourism and hospitality staff out of 100 at the TAFE NSW Hunter Institute at Metford would retain their jobs.
But former head teacher Rhonda Fry – made redundant after 35 years – said her figures related to TAFE staff throughout the Hunter and not just at Metford.
The spokesman said: “To remain competitive and successful TAFE NSW needs to operate efficiently and adapt its services to deliver better outcomes for its customers.
“Savings measures announced in 2012 for TAFE NSW were estimated to result in a reduction of around 800 positions over the following four years.”
NSW Teachers’ Federation organiser Rob Long met with ALP candidate for Maitland Jenny Aitchison to discuss the job losses.
“Already there have been 1200 TAFE job losses in NSW and this week up to 50 TAFE teachers received letters saying they must reapply for their jobs,” Mr Long said.
