Forsythes Recruitment co-owner and partner Geoff Crews is conducting the recruitment as part of a new ongoing partnership with the sporting body.
Mr Crews said sport was important to the people of the Hunter and getting the right CEO was vital to build on the great work the Academy had done for athletes, coaches and the community.
The search could extend internationally.
Forsythes has placed online advertisements and is using its national and global databases and partners in the search.
“We are searching for someone with a passion for sport and helping young athletes, who is also an excellent administrator and capable of leading change,” Mr Crews said.
“Applications for the position close on December 5 and we hope to have an offer made to a successful candidate before Christmas,” he said.
“Depending upon the successful candidate’s availability, it is likely they will start in February.”
Mr Crews said the new CEO had big shoes to fill.
Ken Clifford retired from the Academy last month after 28 years of service as founding CEO.
“Ken was a father figure in Hunter sport, very popular and respected among athletes and their families, coaches, and sporting bodies,” he said.
The Hunter Academy of Sport is the largest of 11 regional academies in Australia.
It supports 600 sports people across 28 talent development programs with the help of more than 100 volunteers.
Forsythes Recruitment is the largest locally owned recruitment and organisational development firm in the Hunter.
