The 25-year-old from Macksville, located just a few hours north of Maitland, died on Thursday afternoon after being struck in the head with a bouncer playing a Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground two days earlier.
A social media campaign using #PutOutYourBats was started to pay tribute to the young batsman.
People are placing a cricket bat, some with a cap slouched over the handle, outside their houses and workplaces as they attempt to deal with the tragic loss.
The Mercury office also took part in the tribute on Friday morning.
