And now, more than a decade after leaving magnificent Aberglasslyn House, Mrs Maule has returned to Maitland to style homes in historic Regent Street.
“In a town like Maitland, heritage is its charm and we need to do all we can to protect that,” she said.
After eight years renovating Aberglasslyn House, Mrs Maule, husband Paul and son Harley travelled to Tasmania, where they discovered Dysart House.
“This one was bigger than Aberglasslyn House and we turned it into a guest house before selling it to Leo Schofield,” she said.
Then, nine months after travelling around Europe, the couple returned to Sydney to buy a house in Surry Hills.
“We did a major conversion on that one, but we went very contemporary,” Mrs Maule said.
The Maules have more recently bought the Darlinghurst apartment of top Australian interior designer Greg Natale.
“We don’t have to do a thing to this one, so it’s something very different for us,” Mrs Maule said.
Future plans include the restoration of both a property in France and a boat in the Caribbean.
Despite all this, it was Aberglasslyn House that stole their hearts.
“It is without doubt the finest house that we will ever live in in our lives and we were very proud to be a part of it,” Mrs Maule said.
