Mr Gilks, 19, of Lake Macquarie, died during a practice run at Maitland Showground while training for a world record attempt that was to be performed at the Maitland Bike and Hotrod Show last year.
He was attempting a jump of up to 90 metres on March 21 when the crash happened.
He died during surgery at the John Hunter Hospital.
State Coroner Michael Barnes was listed to oversee the inquest at Glebe Coroner’s Court on Friday.
It will instead be held at Newcastle on April 5.
More than 1200 people turned out for the Cardiff funeral of the teenager, who had been living on the Gold Coast at the time.
