The banks of the Hunter River in Maitland will be hive of activity this New Year’s Eve as the city farewells 2014.

Maitland City Council’s events co-ordinator Adam Franks said the festivities will start from 5.30pm on Wednesday with plenty of family-friendly activities including face painting and balloon sculpting along with amusements such as a giant slide, tea cups, bungee trampoline, rock climbing wall and extreme bounce jumping castle.
The children's disco kicks off at 6pm along with plenty of other entertainment including The Do Riders and the Paterson Plukestra’.
Taste buds will be tantalised by a variety of caterers offering international dishes and all the party favourites.
The festivities culminate at 9pm with a fireworks display.
As part of the celebrations there will be some temporary road closures around St Andrews Street, Maitland.
The following roads will be closed from 6am Wednesday, December 31 to 9am Thursday, January 1:
* St Andrews Street between High Street and the river bank.
* Riverside Car Park.
* Stillsbury Lane.
The following roads will be closed from 3pm to midnight, Wednesday, December 31:
* High Street, eastbound lane from Belmore Road to just west of Church Street.
* High Street, westbound lane from just west of Church Street to Little Hunter Street (egress to Belmore Road will be maintained via Little Hunter Street).
Parking:
The car park underneath K-Mart in the Hunter Mall will close at 7pm on Wednesday, December 31.
Council encourages drivers to park in the car park on Ken Tubman Drive, opposite Quest Apartments.
