I note in your editorial on Friday and also an article on page 5 that (Liberal candidate for Maitland) Steve Thomson is making seatbelts for school buses a key priority.

Let me save Mr Thomson the trouble.
Over the past 12 months, I have asked Minister [for Transport Gladys] Berejiklian three separate and different questions available on Parliament’s website on this issue and have received similar generalised answers – seatbelts will only be installed on buses “dedicated to school runs”.
Therefore, if the bus is used for other runs, which most are in our area, then no seatbelts are going to be installed.
I also wrote directly to Minister Berejiklian in January 2014 regarding school bus safety and in April got a similar response.
For readers interested, the questions and answers are numbered on Parliament’s website as 5360, 5957 and 6217.
Mr Thomson or readers can contact my office and I will post them copies of the questions as well as the April response to my representation.
