Council has used a grant from the Keep Australia Beautiful National Association to buy yellow bin lids so clearly marked recycling facilities can be available for the public to use at events such as the upcoming Taste Festival in March.
“Providing the yellow bin lids gives people a visual reminder to undertake recycling when out and about at local events,” development and environment manager David Simm said.
As council reviews the options for future waste management, recycling is particularly important in reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill.
Recycling also helps decrease impacts on our natural environment and assists in saving energy and water resources.
Many of the materials we recycle at home and at local events can be used to create new products.
“Maitland has a good recycling history and providing recycling opportunities at events helps the community and visitors to continue this,” Mr Simm said.
