The Mercury has launched a campaign to find 10 local businesses to donate $1000 each needed for the show’s centre ring attractions on the weekend of February 20, 21 and 22.
Tony and Allison Bartlett have operated Bartlett Homes, builders of new, custom designed homes in the Hunter Valley, for the past 20 years.
Mr Bartlett recalled happy childhood memories attending Maitland Show.
“I grew up in Maitland and to see the agriculture and the animals at the show, it was something I did not normally see,” he said.
“The show was always the highlight of my year, the rides, side show alley, it was an experience I wanted to be part of.
“As we drove past the show ground I would hear the screams of people enjoying themselves, see the lights and hear the music. I couldn’t wait to have a pluto pup, fairy floss and ride the dodgems.”
Mr Bartlett encouraged all Maitland families to experience the show and make it part of their annual calendar.
“It’s all about having fun together and to create great memories for your children.”
“Maitland is a fast-growing city so why shouldn’t the show grow with it?
“It is also Maitland’s chance to show everyone how we are still a rural area and proud of it.”
Alison Bartlett recalled fond memories of dressing up in her finest clothes as a young girl ready to attend Maitland Show.
“Mum and my sisters would dress up in our best outfits.
“Show bags were a huge excitement for us. We were only allowed one (show bag) so it was big decision to make.”
Mrs Bartlett intends to carry on the family tradition and will take her seven-month-old grandson Noah to the show for the first time.
