Several others will pass through the hospital on rotation.
The intake is believed to be the biggest of new medical interns at Maitland Hospital for many years.
Dr Meredith Schulson came to Australia from Canada to graduate at Sydney University.
“I was previously a teacher but I have always been interested in medicine,” Dr Schulson said.
“I came from a small town in Canada and I am thrilled to be in Maitland.
“Eventually I want to be GP because I enjoy helping patients from newborn babies to elderly people.
“I also enjoy working in smaller communities.
“The staff at Maitland Hospital have been very supportive to us and the patients here are lovely.”
Dr Enoch Foong graduated at the University of NSW last year.
“At Maitland Hospital we will be working in areas of mental health, surgery, medicine and the emergency ward,” he said.
“It is very exciting to be here and I will value the hands-on experience we will all be getting.”
Welcoming the doctors to the hospital, Maitland MP Robyn Parker said a record 980 interns would begin their medical internships in NSW public hospitals this year.
“The commitment to quality care demonstrated by those at Maitland Hospital is known throughout the local community,” she said.
“I am pleased to see these interns will be learning from some of our best during their one-year internship.”
